Women’s Tennis bests EKU for 6-1 home win

Lions win first ASUN contest of the season

FLORENCE, Ala. (March 28, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team is back in the win column after a 6-1 home victory against EKU at the UNA Tennis Complex Thursday afternoon.

UNA picked up its first ASUN win with the result, also remaining undefeated in home contests at 5-0. North Alabama proved sharp in the first of three duals this week, winning all but two matches in the contest. UNA improves its record to 10-6 overall and 1-4 in the ASUN, ending a three-dual skid.

All six Lions were instrumental in UNA's first all-time victory over EKU. Senior Kalais Going, sophomore Stanislava Bobrovnikova and freshman Ada Karabacak won both their singles and doubles matches, while senior Marta Torres and freshman Emma Ansorge were victorious in their respective singles matches. Junior Anoek Pruijmboom continued her exemplary play in doubles with an 11th straight win.

Going and Bobrovnikova began the day with a swift win from flight one, blanking Emmeline Polevoi and Marilou Cote, 6-0. The doubles decider came from flight three in Pruijmboom and Karabacak's 6-3 win over Sasha Parkhomenko and Madison Hill.

Freshman Emma Ansorge had the first singles win for UNA, defeating Parkhomenko 6-0, 6-2 for her third-straight singles win. Bobrovnikova added her second win of the dual with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph from flight one – her fifth from the top flight.

EKU gained a point back with a sixth-flight win, but the remaining matches went all in favor of the Lions. Torres picked up her eighth singles win of the season in a 7-5, 6-3 win over Izem Olcer, while Going earned her second win of the day in a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Cote from flight three. The final match with Karabacak was decided in three sets, with the Istanbul, Turkey native battling back for 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Emmeline Polevoi.

The Lions return to the UNA Tennis Complex on Saturday, March 30 for the second all-time meeting against Queens at 3 p.m.
