FLORENCE, Ala. (March 4, 2024) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team had a strong showing against the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Monday afternoon, winning 5-2 at the UNA Tennis Complex.

UNA improved to 8-4 on the season, with the Lions now the winners of eight of their last nine outings. Mississippi Valley State's winless start to the season continues as the Delta Devils record now stands at 0-6.

The Lions used the afternoon affair to get back in the win column after a seven-match win streak was snapped by Jacksonville State last time out.

Both of UNA's wins from doubles resulted in 6-0 decisions, while all four singles wins were flawless 6-0, 6-0 sweeps. North Alabama played only four players, resulting in forfeit wins from the fifth and sixth singles flights for MVSU.

The Lions' first flight pair of freshmen Izan Orgiles and Birtan Duran got things started with their win over MVSU's Omar Emmons and Jayren Fox, with sophomore Federico Scotuzzi and freshman Whitman Davis taking the second doubles flight over Amir Williams and Khalil James-Ware.

UNA surrendered two points in singles, but didn't need them as the Lions won all four courts to secure the win. Orgiles, Duran, Scotuzzi and Davis all earned straight-set victories.

North Alabama begins a three-dual week on March 13, when the Lions take on Alabama A&M from the UNA Tennis Complex. First serve against the Bulldogs is set for 1 p.m.
