Women’s Tennis opens road swing Wednesday at Lipscomb

UNA to also face Western Kentucky and Central Arkansas

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 2, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team is set for a three-dual road swing beginning Wednesday, April 3 at Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn.

UNA hits the road after three duals at the UNA Tennis Complex last week, finishing 3-0 in the home bouts against EKU, Queens and Alabama State. The Lions earned their first two wins in Atlantic Sun Conference play against the Colonels and Royals, while ending the week with an Easter Sunday win against the Hornets.

North Alabama beat EKU for the first time in program history, while the triumph over Queens moved its record to 2-0 against the Royals. UNA's win over Alabama State was the fifth-straight in the series and broke a 4-4 tie to extend its winning ways.

The Lions hope to keep their momentum going as the regular season comes to a close, as five duals remain before the ASUN Conference Championships from April 19-21 in Fort Myers, Fla.

SCOUTING THE LIONS: The Lions look to continue winning in conference play while searching for their 11th non-conference win against Western Kentucky. UNA improved its record to 12-6 after last week, with UNA also moving to 7-0 in home duals. The Lions increased their singles match win rate to 54.6 percent with a 53-44 record, also improving in doubles to 78 percent with a 32-9 record. Senior Kalais Going is the leader with 14 doubles wins, but junior Anoek Pruijmboom and freshman Ada Karabacak remain unbeaten as a pair with an 8-0 record. Pruijmboom is second in doubles victories with 12, and Karabacak has not lost in doubles with a 13-0 record. Freshman Emma Ansorge is 11-4 in singles competition, registering a 9-3 record from flight two and 2-0 record from flight three. Ansorge has also been victorious in her previous five singles matches.

SCOUTING LIPSCOMB: UNA opens the week with ASUN action from Nashville against the Bisons. Lipscomb enters the home bout at 11-5 overall with a 3-3 ASUN record, looking to extend its winning ways for a third-straight dual. The Bisons won comfortably last week in a 7-0 win against Queens and 6-1 victory over EKU. Lipscomb wins over 60 percent of its matches, winning at a 65.8 percent rate in doubles and 62.1 percent rate in singles. Sofia Paladi and Mariya Dolzhenko have nine wins as a pair, while Paladi also checks in with 15 wins in singles. Lipscomb's head coach is Jamie Aid.

SERIES HISTORY: The Lions and Bisons meet for the 18th all-time meeting, with Lipscomb leading the series 14-3. UNA looks for its first win against the Bisons since 2011.

SCOUTING WESTERN KENTUCKY: The Lions take a pause in conference play to face non-conference opponent WKU in the second contest. The Hilltoppers compete in Conference USA and enter the dual at 12-7 on the season. WKU has won its last three duals with an away win at Alabama A&M before two-straight home wins against Tennessee State. The Hilltoppers win singles matches at a 60.6 percent rate but increases to 63.6 percent in doubles play. Samantha Martinez leads Western Kentucky with 14 doubles win – 10 of which came with partner Mariana Zegada. Sofia Blanco has a 15-1 record in singles play for the Hilltoppers. Western Kentucky's head coach is Greg Davis.

SERIES HISTORY: North Alabama holds a 9-8 advantage in what will be the 18th all-time meeting against the Hilltoppers. The Lions last defeated WKU on March 9, 2020 in a 4-3 home win.

SCOUTING CENTRAL ARKANSAS: North Alabama ends the road trip with an ASUN matchup against the Bears. Central Arkansas is 11-9 on the season with a 3-3 conference record, coming off a 6-1 ASUN win at Bellarmine on March 30. UCA's Vichitraporn Vimuktananda has 26 wins total across singles and doubles, adding two more in the Bears' rout of Bellarmine last time out. The head coach for Central Arkansas is Casey Wharton.

SERIES HISTORY: The two teams meet for the 13th time and will look to break a 6-6 tie in the series.
