NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 3, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss against Lipscomb on Wednesday in Atlantic Sun Conference play in Nashville, Tenn.

The Lions opened their three-dual road trip in Nashville, looking to continue their winning ways after a 3-0 week last week. Lipscomb gained the early advantage with two-straight doubles wins before taking the first three singles matches to win the dual. The Bisons took two of the remaining three flights after UNA freshman Marta Serra Carles won the final match from flight six.

The match originally began at 1 p.m. but was suspended after doubles due to inclement weather. Play resumed at 6:30 p.m. after relocating nearby to the Ensworth High School Tennis Center.

The Bisons started with two doubles wins, but junior Anoek Pruijmboom and freshman Ada Karabacak fought hard from the third flight. They were able to force a tiebreaker against Anja Trbeznik and Deborah Dominguez Collado, but Lipscomb's pair was able to take the win, 7-5.

Lipscomb took five of the six singles flights, but two came down to third sets. Senior Kalais Going battled the Bisons' Rut Galindo to a third frame but fell in a 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 result. Senior Marta Torres fought back from a set down to force a third, but Lipscomb's Trbeznik was able to take the victory, 7-5, 1-6, 7-5.

North Alabama's lone win came from Serra Carles battling back a set down. Lipscomb's Alina Cherniaieva won 7-5 in the first frame, but Serra Carles came alive for a 6-1 second set to force a super tiebreaker. The freshman was able to take the final frame, 10-5, for her fifth win of the season.

UNA's record moves to 12-7 overall and 2-5 in the ASUN, while Lipscomb improves to 12-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

The Lions continue on the road Thursday, April 4 at Western Kentucky, with first serve scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
