Junior earns first individual national ranking in program’s Division I history

TEMPE, Ariz. (November 25, 2025) – North Alabama Women's Tennis student-athlete Mathilde Delaney was announced as receiving a No. 104 national singles ranking from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday.

The junior's fall season saw sensational results, landing her a national ranking. Delaney becomes the first student-athlete in the program's Division I era (since 2018) to earn an individual national ranking.

"I am so proud of achieving this milestone for the program," said UNA Director of Tennis Olaya Garrido Rivas. "It's the first time we've had national recognition of any kind, and it feels good. I'm super proud of Mati because she's been working super hard since she got here. She's developed and grown so much on and off the court. I can't wait to see what she can achieve this spring."

Delaney won 14 matches in the fall season. The Montreal, Canada native was victorious in at least one match at all five tournaments and invitationals she appeared in.

She opened with a strong start at the Rajun' Cajun Hidden Duals from Sept. 19-20. Delaney won five total matches with three coming in doubles and two in singles. She followed with a three-win performance at the Lipscomb Fall Invitational from Oct. 3-5, taking two singles and one doubles triumph.

Delaney won another three matches with two singles and a doubles win at the ITA Regionals Championships from Oct. 13-17. The junior won third place at the Conference Individual Tournament from Oct. 24-26, taking third place with two wins alongside teammate Eeva Ristola.

Her final fall appearance ended with a doubles win at the Bonita Bay Club Collegiate Open from Nov. 7-9.
