FLORENCE, Ala. (February 22, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team had a strong home opener Saturday against the Jackson State Tigers, securing a 4-0 sweep from the Cox Creek Tennis Courts.

Playing away from the usual home confides of the UNA Tennis Courts, Men's Tennis showed no rust from nearly two weeks away with the home triumph. North Alabama led with two wins in doubles to kick off the dual, following with victories from flights two, three and five in singles to complete the sweep.

Junior Lachlan Brain and freshman Satoru Nakajima had a perfect start to doubles, defeating Jackson State's Sebastian Vaquero and Fabrizio Fallas, 6-0, from flight three. Senior Nazar Fedoryshyn and sophomore Birtan Duran wrapped up doubles with a 6-3 victory over the Tigers' Ching Chang and Maas Schotanus. The wins marked the first for both pairings on the new season.

Sophomore Izan Orgiles added his name to the win column with a 6-2, 6-1 win over JSU's Federico Pieckenstainer Favole, earning his second-straight singles win. Duran finished as the lone Lion with two wins, as he defeated the Tigers' Chang, 6-1, 6-2, from flight three.

Freshman Samu Dominguez capped the action from Cox Creek with a 6-0, 6-4 win from court five, beating Jackson State's Vaquero for his second season win.

Courts one, four and six went unfinished, but Brain, Nakajima and sophomore Whitman Davis all had one-set advantages prior to the completion of the dual.

The Lions move to 3-2 overall while Jackson State heads home at 0-5. UNA also remains unbeaten in the all-time series against the Tigers, moving to 3-0.
