HATTIESBURG, Miss. (February 27, 2025) – The No. 74 University of North Alabama men's tennis team opened its road trip Thursday afternoon with a 4-0 victory over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in Hattiesburg, Miss.

The opener of three-straight duals, No. 74 North Alabama continued rolling with a sweep over the Golden Eagles. After a week where the Lions achieved the 74th ranking in the International Tennis Association polls, the Lions started strong as a ranked program with a convincing win en route to the fifth victory of the season.

UNA took the doubles point against the Golden Eagles, with North Alabama taking the second and third flights. In singles, the fourth, fifth and sixth flights shined with straight-set wins to take the dual in Mississippi.

Five Lions won on the day, with two taking home both a singles and doubles victory. Sophomore Alberto Altur added two wins to his tally, along with freshman Samu Dominguez. Junior Lachlan Brain and sophomore Birtan Duran took home singles wins, while sophomore Izan Orgiles partnered with Altur for the doubles win.

Brain and Dominguez opened doubles with a flight-three win, defeating Southern Miss's Olle Noltorp and Niklas Jensen. Altur and Orgiles featured from flight two, beating the Golden Eagles' Saheb Sodhi and Ritabrata Sarkar, 6-4, to secure the doubles point.

Duran and senior Nazar Fedoryshyn's doubles match against Pasawee Reansuwong and Ricards Spaks went unfinished.

Altur continued his run of form with a 6-3, 6-3 singles win, defeating Southern Miss's Niklas Jensen from flight five. Duran registered the second UNA win in singles, taking home a dominant 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Reansuwong from court four.

The deciding point came from court six, with Dominguez sealing the dual with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Spaks of Southern Miss.

North Alabama won their third-straight dual in the process, improving its season record to 5-2. Southern Miss fell to 1-6 after the defeat to the Lions.
