Women’s Tennis readies for Wednesday dual against Alabama A&M

Lions to conclude nonconference schedule against Bulldogs

FLORENCE, Ala. (March 11, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team is back in action Wednesday from the UNA Tennis Courts, hosting the visiting Alabama A&M Bulldogs in Florence.

The Lions are set for a second-straight dual against an instate opponent, looking to continue its winning ways with the meeting against Alabama A&M. UNA sports a 3-1 record currently in home duals, going for its fourth-straight in the midweek matchup. North Alabama caps the nonconference schedule against the Bulldogs, moving into conference play later this weekend.

First serve against Alabama A&M is set for 11 a.m. The dual serves as a doubleheader with Men's Tennis, who also face the Bulldogs at 2 p.m. Live stats will be available for both duals with links becoming available closer to match time.

LAST TIME OUT:
North Alabama hosted the Samford Bulldogs in their last outing at the UNA Tennis Courts, rolling to a 5-2 victory to extend its win streak to five. The Lions overcame the Bulldogs taking the doubles point to claim five of six singles matches en route to the home win. UNA's triumph also marked the first win over Samford since the 1988 season.

SCOUTING THE LIONS: UNA current win streak has been due to an all-around effort by the Lions. North Alabama swept two opponents in Missouri State and SEMO, also picking up three-point wins against Jackson State (4-1), Jacksonville State (4-1) and Samford (5-2). The Lions also earned their first ASUN Women's Tennis Player of the Week with junior Stanislava Bobrovnikova picking up the honor on Feb. 26. North Alabama sports a 68.2 percent win percentage in singles play but increases in doubles to 72.7 percent. Junior Eeva Ristola leads the way with an 8-0 record in doubles play, with sophomore Ada Karabacak 8-1 in singles competition.

SCOUTING ALABAMA A&M: The Bulldogs enter the dual 3-6 on the season, looking to continue their winning ways on the road in Florence. Last time out, Alabama A&M took a 4-0 sweep against Grambling State, extending its win streak to three with prior wins against Mississippi Valley State (4-0) and Southern University (4-1). The head coach for the Bulldogs is Willis Mbandi.

SERIES HISTORY: The Lions lead the all-time series over the Bulldogs with a 19-2 record. UNA defeated the Bulldogs, 5-2, during the 2024 season and has won 15-straight meetings against Alabama A&M.
