Men’s Tennis blanks Alabama A&M in 4-0 sweep

Lions tame Bulldogs to earn third-straight win

FLORENCE, Ala. (March 12, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team secured a 4-0 sweep Wednesday afternoon against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in Florence.

North Alabama concluded its nonconference schedule against the Bulldogs, rolling to secure the sweep in the afternoon bout. The Lions' strong showing early resulted in UNA taking the doubles point, continuing in singles with three-straight wins. North Alabama extended its winning ways to a third dual, while also remaining unbeaten at home with a 5-0 record.


North Alabama heads into Atlantic Sun Conference play with a 9-3 record, while Alabama A&M falls to 2-8 on the season.

The Lions were led by performances from sophomore Izan Orgiles and freshman Samu Dominguez, each finishing with a singles and doubles win. Junior Lachlan Brain and sophomore Alberto Altur claimed respective doubles wins with Dominguez and Orgiles, and sophomore Birtan Duran clinched the dual with his singles win from court three.


Altur and Orgiles opened the dual with a 6-1 top-flight win over Alabama A&M's Kai Cowcher and Tasso Moreira. Brain and Dominguez followed with a victory from court three, claiming UNA's double point with a 6-1 triumph over the Bulldogs' Yin Chih Lan and Agustin Marquez. Duran and senior Nazar Fedoryshyn were leading 4-1 in their match from court two prior to the Lions taking the doubles point.


Similar to doubles, Orgiles secured the first singles win with a 6-0, 6-3 result from court two over Alabama A&M's Lan. Dominguez nabbed the second singles win for UNA, rolling to a 6-1, 6-3 over the Bulldogs' Krivokapic from court five. The clinching point came courtesy of Duran from court three, taking a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Alabama A&M's Arnav Panthage.


Brain, Fedoryshyn and sophomore Whitman Davis's respective singles matches went unfinished, but all three held advantages prior to completion. Brain led against Cowcher, 7-5, heading into the second set, and Fedoryshyn led 6-4, 3-2 over Moreira. Davis also won his opening set, 7-5, against Marquez.
