CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (March 14, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team opened Atlantic Sun Conference play on the road, tallying a 5-2 triumph Friday morning over the Austin Peay Governors in Clarksville, Tenn.
The Lions rolled to their seventh-consecutive win, using strong singles play to take the road bout against the Governors. Austin Peay grabbed the early lead with the doubles point, but North Alabama won five of the six singles flights en route to the conference victory.
Senior Stanislava Bobrovnikova and junior Eeva Ristola earned a doubles win together along with respective singles victories. Junior Senem Ocal and sophomores Ada Karabacak and Mathilde Delaney contributed respective singles wins. North Alabama's road win improved its record to 9-2, while Austin Peay dropped to 4-9.
The Governors took the early advantage with two doubles wins to gain the first dual point. Despite the result, Bobrovnikova and Ristola's tallied their sixth doubles win of the season with a 6-3 triumph over Yu-Hua Cheng and Denise Torrealba.
The Lions came alive in singles play, starting with Ristola's fourth-flight win over Luc Bohlen. Bobrovnikova secured her singles win with a 6-4, 6-3 result over Sophia Baranov from flight one. A third-straight singles win came courtesy of Ocal, beating Elena Thiel, 6-4, 6-2, from court six.
The clinching win came from court three, as Karabacak overcame a dropped first set to win, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 over Asia Fontana. Delaney rounded out UNA's away win with a hard-fought, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1 triumph.
