Women’s Tennis earns 5-2 home victory over Central Arkansas

Singles play sparks Lions towards 10th straight win

FLORENCE, Ala. (March 21, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team defeated the Central Arkansas Bears in a 5-2 win Friday afternoon from the UNA Tennis Courts, extending a 10-match win streak.

North Alabama faced the visiting Bears with the Lions looking to continue rolling in Atlantic Sun Conference play. UNA had a slow start in the outing, dropping the doubles point to Central Arkansas, but the Lions recovered with a strong performance in singles action.

Five of the six courts were won by North Alabama, extending the winning streak into double digits. The feat marks a new program record for Women's Tennis, with available records dating back to the 1975 season.

UNA's record now stands at 12-2 overall and 4-0 in the ASUN. Central Arkansas falls to 7-9 overall with the Bears still in search of a conference win at 0-3.

Five Lions secured wins, led by sophomores Emma Ansorge and Mathilde Delaney. The two combined for their sixth doubles victory while also winning their respective singles matches. Ansorge won for the fifth time in singles play, and Delaney registered her eighth singles triumph.

Senior Stanislava Bobrovnikova, junior Eeva Ristola and sophomore Ada Karabacak were also victorious in their singles matches to help secure the home win.

The doubles point went to the Bears with wins on courts one and three to start. Central Arkansas' Ting-An Chen and Nanami Fukashima earned the first win with a 6-1 victory from court three over Karabacak and junior Lena Karlovcan. Ansorge and Delaney answered back with their own doubles victory, taking the second court in a 6-4 win over Nanoka Kazama and Harune Shigemasu.

Bobrovnikova and Ristola battled the Bears' Vichitraporn Vimuktananda and Konomi Miyakawa from court one, but the UCA duo pulled through for a 7-5 win.

In singles, North Alabama struck back to tie and eventually take the lead with five-straight wins.

Bobrovnikova won in dominant fashion from the top flight, defeating Vimuktananda in a 6-2, 6-1 triumph. Another strong effort gave UNA a 2-1 lead in the dual, as Karabacak defeated Miyakawa from court three, 6-3, 6-0. The third Lions' win came via Ristola on court four, with the junior taking a 6-1, 7-5 result against Shigemasu.

North Alabama's clinching victory was from Delaney, who went on to defeat Chen in a 6-1, 7-5 win. Ansorge added a fifth point to complete the afternoon, rolling to a 6-2, 7-5 triumph over Kazama on court two.
