Women’s Tennis to face Stetson and FGCU this weekend

Lions carry 10-dual win streak in bouts versus Hatters and Eagles

FLORENCE, Ala. (March 27, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team is back in action at the UNA Tennis Courts for weekend bouts against the visiting Stetson Hatters and FGCU Eagles.

A weekend featuring top-four teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference, the Lions are set to host conference leaders Stetson and fourth-place FGCU. UNA face the Hatters on Friday, March 28, then capping the weekend versus the Eagles on Sunday, March 30.

The duals serve as doubleheaders with UNA Men's Tennis, who also face Stetson and FGCU each afternoon at 3 p.m.

First serve for both duals are set for 11 a.m. Live stats will be available for both duals with links becoming available closer to match time.

LAST TIME OUT:
North Alabama moved to 4-0 in ASUN play with two home wins in their last week of action. The Lions opened with a 5-2 win over Lipscomb on March 19, concluding the week with a 5-2 triumph over the Central Arkansas on March 21.

SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama looks to continue its hot streak, entering the weekend in the midst of a program-record 10-straight wins. The Lions won all 10 duals by three or more team points and swept opponents in three of the matchups (Missouri State, SEMO and Alabama A&M). UNA is victorious in 68.6 percent in doubles and 73.2 percent of singles matches. Junior Eeva Ristola has the team-leading 12-1 record in doubles, with sophomore Ada Karabacak the leader in singles with an 12-1 record. Senior Stanislava Bobrovnikova continues to lead from the top flight with a 11-1 record, while junior Senem Ocal is 9-3 in her singles matches. Bobrovnikova also sports an 9-4 doubles record, with Karabacak third on the team at 8-4.

SCOUTING STETSON: The Hatters travel to Florence at 13-3 on the season with a perfect 5-0 record in conference play. Stetson currently owns a seven-dual winning streak, last time out going 3-0 on the week in duals against NJIT, EKU and Queens. Stetson was voted number one in the 2025 ASUN Women's Tennis Preseason Poll, receiving six first-place votes. The Hatters are victorious in 67.4 percent of doubles matches and 73.3 percent of singles matches. Leading the team with 10 doubles wins is Cheri Darley, Alanna DiFrancesco and Katsiaryna Tuliakova. In singles, DiFranesco sports the team high with 12 wins. Travis Sandlant is the head coach for the Hatters.

SERIES HISTORY: The fourth all-time meeting between the two programs, Stetson leads the all-time series, 3-0.

SCOUTING FGCU: The Eagles conclude the weekend for UNA, coming into the matchup with a 10-6 overall record and 4-1 in the ASUN. FGCU is on a three-dual winning streak, picking up wins against Central Arkansas, Queens and EKU. Prior to the season, FGCU was picked to finish fourth in the ASUN's Women's Tennis Preseason Poll. The Eagles win doubles matches at a 44.4 percent rate, but their winning percentage increases to 59.3 percent in singles play. Three players are tied for the team-high with seven doubles wins (Paloma Goldsmith, Nora Svensson and Anjali Kotecha). In singles play, Kotecha leads with 11 victories. FGCU currently has the conference player of the week in Isa Colmenares. The Eagles' head coach is Courtney Vernon.

SERIES HISTORY: FGCU and North Alabama play in the fourth all-time meeting in the series history. The Eagles leads the series against the Lions, 3-0.
