FLORENCE, Ala. (March 28, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team extended its home winning streak Friday evening from Florence, taking a 5-2 victory against the visiting No. 66 Stetson Hatters.
The Lions remained perfect in contests from the UNA Tennis Courts, securing a big win at home against the Hatters. North Alabama took the battle in top-three teams from the Atlantic Sun Conference, also earning its first win over a ranked opponent this season. The effort was fueled by strong play in doubles, leading to four singles victories to capture the triumph in Florence.
UNA's seventh win in a row improved their record to 13-3 on the year while unbeaten in ASUN play at 4-0. Stetson's seven-match win streak was snapped with the defeat, with the Hatters now 12-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Six Lions secured victories on the day, with junior Lachlan Brain and sophomore Birtan Duran each securing a singles and doubles win. Brain earned his seventh singles win and sixth doubles victory, while Duran nabs his 10th singles triumph and ninth victory in doubles.
Senior Nazar Fedoryshyn combined with Duran for their ninth doubles win, while freshman Samu Dominguez and Brain earned their fifth doubles victory. Sophomores Izan Orgiles and Alberto Altur secured respective singles victories to round out the wins for the Lions.
The Lions started fast by taking the doubles point with victories on court one and three. Brain and Dominguez opened with a 6-2 win on court three over Xavier Sarda and Haris Eminefendic. Fedoryshyn and Duran followed suit from court one, taking a 6-3 triumph over Eder Blanco and Christian Kuehne to secure the doubles point.
Heading into singles, Duran gave the Lions a 2-0 team lead with a 6-2, 6-2 victory from court four over Eminefendic. The Hatters won from court six to cut the UNA lead to 2-1, but Brain's 6-3, 6-4 win over Blanco from court one gave North Alabama its third team point.
The clinching point came courtesy of Altur on court three, defeating Lucas Olivier in a hard-fought, 7-5, 7-6 battle. Orgiles added the fifth and final point from court two, beating the Hatters' Kuene with a 7-6, 6-4 triumph.
