NOTES

LAST TIME OUT: North Alabama completed a four-game sweep of Oakland last weekend, winning a pair of five-inning 9-1 games on Friday, followed by a 4-0 shutout in the doubleheader opener on Saturday. The series finale brought more dramatics than the others, as senior Hailey Jones hit a bases loaded triple in the 11th inning for an 8-7 walk-off victory.

AMONG THE LAST UNBEATENS: UNA started 9-0 for the first time since the 2016 season, where the Lions won the NCAA Division II National Championship with a 60-7 record. At the time, UNA was one of just 10 teams in Division I with an undefeated record through nine games. The other nine were from power conferences, including seven SEC teams and two from the ACC. Only two remain this week — Oklahoma and South Carolina.

THE DAWN OF DOVER: Sophomore Briley Dover was voted ASUN Player of the Week after the first week of the season following a 10-for-18 weekend at the Stinger Classic. On that Saturday against Nicholls State, Dover went 5-for-5 with a single, double, two triples and a homer in the seventh inning to complete the cycle. She is the first Division I player at UNA to hit for the cycle, hit two triples in one game and to have five hits in one game.

SIMON STRIKES AND WILKEN WINS: Twin sisters Emily Simon and Katie Simon have joined forces with Alivia Wilken in the circle this season. The three starters have a combined 1.84 ERA over 118 innings. The ERA ranks as the 16st lowest in the country and the lowest in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

TRIPLE THREATS: The Lions rank fifth in the nation with 13 triples this season. Only 10 teams in the NCAA came claim to have 10 or more triples. Dover leads the team with four, while Jones has three and junior transfer Laura Leigh Wheeler has a pair.

SCOUTING THE TITANS: Detroit Mercy will head to Florence for a second straight season after stealing a game for UNA in last season's tournament. The Titans have a 2-8 record, snapping an eight-game skid with back-to-back wins over UIC and Alabama A&M. Detroit Mercy finishes a doubleheader with the Bulldogs on Thursday before coming to Florence on Friday. Sophomore Jada Davis leads the hitters with a .292 average and seven hits, while freshman Erin Flynn is the ace with a 2.77 ERA.

SCOUTING THE WARHAWKS: ULM has a 15-8 record this season, including a perfect 12-0 record at home following a sweep of Tarleton State, SEMO and Memphis at the Best on the Bayou Tournament in Monroe. Last time out, ULM lost in five innings to LSU, who is 19-1 this season. Meagan Brown and Morgan Brown, both of Katy, Texas, have been a dynamic duo for ULM with a combined 55 RBIs. Sophomore Dakota Lake has a 3.77 ERA in 55.2 innings.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: Samford enters with a 13-7 record with appearances in the Trojan Invitational at Troy, its home Samford Tournament, the UAB Tournament hosted by the Blazers and the Florida Tournament hosted by the Gators. In two of those road tournaments, Samford beat Troy and UAB by a combined 22-0 score. Samford is led by sophomore Katie Campbell with 11 multi-base hits and 20 RBIs, while junior Sara Bond owns a 2.92 ERA over 36 innings.

SERIES HISTORY: UNA is 10-1 against Samford, including a pair of shutouts in two games last season. In last year's season opener, Alivia Wilken threw the first perfect game in program history in a 1-0 win over Samford in Troy, Ala. Samford's lone win came in 2022. UNA is 1-1 against Detroit Mercy, as the Titans stole a 2-0 win before falling 6-2 in the second game in last year's UNA Tournament. Friday will be the first all-time meeting between UNA and ULM on the softball diamond.
