No. 69 Men’s Tennis claims outright ASUN regular season title versus North Florida

Lions shine on Senior Day with 6-1 triumph over Ospreys

FLORENCE, Ala. (April 13, 2025) – The No. 69 University of North Alabama men's tennis team ended the regular season in style, securing a 6-1 rout Sunday afternoon over the North Florida Ospreys in Florence.

The Lions' magical season continued on from the UNA Tennis Courts, rolling to a historic Senior Day win over the Ospreys in front of a larger-than-usual crowd. North Alabama led a strong effort in the final home dual, starting fast in doubles before taking five of the six singles flights.

The UNA victory secured the first outright ASUN title in program history while ending the season a perfect 10-0 in home duals. UNA also wiped through ASUN competition with an 8-0 record in conference play.

The Lions clinch the top seed and a first round bye for the 2025 ASUN Men's Tennis Championship this upcoming week in Jacksonville, Fla.

All six competing Lions were victorious against the Ospreys. Sophomores Alberto Altur and Izan Orgiles led the day with a singles and doubles win, with freshman Satoru Nakajima also winning his two matches on the day. Nakajima teamed with junior Lachlan Brain for a doubles victory before taking the sixth flight in straight sets. Altur and Orgiles teamed up for their doubles win before claiming respective singles victories.

Senior Nazar Fedoryshyn went out strong with a singles victory from court five, and sophomore Birtan Duran rounded out the day with a straight-sets singles triumph.

North Alabama's day started with two-straight doubles wins to open play. Brain and Nakajima defeated the Osprey's Lorenzo Leti Messina and Gianluca Filoramo from flight three, 6-1, before Altur and Orgiles followed with a 6-2 win from court two over Jean Deloziere and Joao Portugal.

Fedoryshyn and Duran were leading their doubles match 4-3 but was left incomplete due to the clinching point.

North Florida struck first with a top-flight win in singles play, but it was all North Alabama the rest of the way. Fedoryshyn secured UNA's first singles win in a 6-1, 6-3 victory from court five over Chase Healey. The Lions moved one point away from the clinching point with Altur claiming the next singles match in a 6-3, 6-3 win from court three over Youssef Labbene.

UNA's clinching point came from court six, with Nakajima defeating Leti Messina, 6-3, 6-2. Duran added a 6-2, 6-3 triumph from court four over Deloziere, with the dual ending with the Lions' Orgiles beating Bruno Vietri from court two, 6-4, 7-6.
