JACKSONVILLE (April 17, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team opens the ASUN Tournament on Friday, April 18, with a semifinal bout against the No. 5 North Florida Ospreys in Jacksonville.
The Lions begin the postseason with the matchup against the Ospreys, looking for a strong start in their opening dual. After clinching its first conference regular season title last time out, North Alabama looks to continue its stellar season with the Lions looking for their first all-time ASUN Tournament Championship.
The tournament will take place at the UNF Tennis Complex with the semifinal set for first serve at 8 a.m. CT for fans following along in the Shoals. The winner will advance to the ASUN Championship final on Saturday, April 19 at 9 a.m. CT. The final will be broadcasted on ESPN+.

THE POSTSEASON BEGINS: The top-seeded men's tennis team preps for its fourth ASUN tournament, looking to continue building on a successful regular season. The third-straight appearance for North Alabama in the tournament, UNA comes into the postseason with championship aspirations.
LAST TIME OUT: The Lions ended the regular season in style, securing a 6-1 Senior Day rout on Sunday, April 13 over the North Florida Ospreys in Florence. The UNA victory secured the first outright ASUN title in program history while ending the season a perfect 9-0 in home duals. UNA also concluded the regular season with an 8-0 record in conference play.
AWARDS GALORE: The Atlantic Sun Conference announced their 2025 postseason awards for men's tennis on Wednesday, April 16, highlighted by individual honors for four Lions with Head Coach Aitor Reparaz earning the program's first Coach of the Year distinction. Junior Lachlan Brain was named to his second-straight ASUN First Team, while sophomores Alberto Altur and Izan Orgiles were named to the Second Team. Freshman Satoru Nakajima rounded out the Lions' postseason honors with an All-Freshman Team selection.
SCOUTING THE LIONS: Entering the postseason, UNA hold an 18-3 record with an 8-0 record in conference play. North Alabama has been strong in duals away from Florence, sporting an 8-3 record. The Lions hold a 60.9 percent win percentage in doubles (28-18 record), increasing to 75 percent (75-25) in singles competition. UNA sophomore Birtan Duran and Izan Orgiles have 10 doubles wins to lead the team. Duran and Orgiles are also tied for the team high in pair wins with nine, with Duran and senior Nazar Fedoryshyn tied with Orgiles and Alberto Altur. Five players also have 10 or more wins in singles competition in Duran (14), Altur (13), Satoru Nakajima (13), Orgiles (11), and Lachlan Brain (10).
SCOUTING NORTH FLORIDA: The Ospreys hold an 8-16 overall record with the postseason in full swing. North Florida are coming off a quarterfinal victory over No. 4 Lipscomb, defeating the Bisons with a 4-2 result. Entering the postseason, the Ospreys win doubles at a 40.4 percent rate and with a 42.2 win percentage in singles. North Florida's Andreas Scott was named the ASUN Conference Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, with the Ospreys also winning Doubles Pair of the Year (Scott and Bruno Vietri) and one All-Freshman Team selection (Youssef Labbene).
SERIES HISTORY: The matchup marks the second season meeting between the two teams and second in the ASUN Tournament. The Lions defeated the Ospreys, 6-1, to end the regular season on April 13, but they will look to avenge their lost to North Florida in the 2024 ASUN Tournament Semifinal.
