JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (April 2, 2024) – University of North Alabama junior Lachlan Brain was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
Brain's performances helped secure a 2-0 weekend for the Lions in home duals against then-No. 66 Stetson and FGCU. The junior secured three total wins across singles and doubles, finishing 3-0 with two singles wins from the top flight and a third-flight doubles victory. The unbeaten weekend resulted in Brain's first ASUN weekly honor and second overall in his career.
His efforts also helped North Alabama earn its second ranking in the International Tennis Association polls this season with the Lions now ranked No. 72 nationally.
Brain opened against the Hatters on March 28, going 2-0 with a top-flight singles win and third-flight doubles victory. He and partner Samu Dominguez nabbed the first doubles victory versus Stetson, taking a 6-2 bout against Xavier Sarda and Haris Eminefendic. Brain completed the dual with a straight-sets singles victory over Eder Blanco, 6-3, 6-4.
In the weekend finale against FGCU, he secured his lone win in a 6-3, 6-2 singles win over the Eagles' Hugo Magnusson. His doubles match against FGCU would go unfinished with both sides tied at 5-5.
With the postseason approaching, Brain is playing some of his best tennis with the junior now a combined 7-1 across singles and doubles in ASUN play. Brain sports a 4-1 record in singles with 3-0 doubles record. For the season, he holds an 8-4 singles record and 6-6 doubles record.
Brain and the No. 72 Lions look to continue rolling on the road this weekend at EKU and Queens.
