RICHMOND, Ky. (April 4, 2025) – The No. 72 University of North Alabama men's tennis team recorded its ninth-straight win of the season Friday afternoon, taking a 6-1 contest in Richmond against EKU.

The Lions weekend started with a dominant effort in the bout against the Colonels, securing their 14th win of the season. North Alabama rebounded from dropping the doubles point early to take all six of the singles courts to take the win on the road. The win also marked the third win this season while ranked, with the Lions defeating Southern Miss and New Orleans earlier while ranked No. 74 by the International Tennis Association.

UNA improved to 14-3 with the win while EKU dropped to 9-16.

It was a team effort to push past the Colonels, who opened with two victories in the doubles portion of play. EKU's Fernando Bulnes and Nuno Pinheiro defeated UNA's Izan Orgiles and Alberto Altur from flight one to start, leading to the Colonels' Adrian Contreras and Ryan Kitchin taking a 7-5 win over sophomore Birtan Duran and freshman Satoru Nakajima.

Heading into singles, the Lions answered back with a complete sweep of the flights. Altur avenged his doubles loss with his 11th singles win of the season, defeating EKU's Contreras, 6-2, 6-4. Duran was victorious in his singles bout, taking a solid win from court four over Kartik Parhar, 6-2, 6-2.

The third singles win came from junior Lachlan Brain, adding a fifth conference win with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over the Colonels' Pinheiro. UNA's Orgiles clinched the dual from court two, taking a three-set bout against Bulnes, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.

The fifth and sixth flights concluded the dual, but the Lions' momentum continued on with freshman Samu Dominguez beating Romeo Navarro from the fifth flight, 6-2, 6-2. UNA's Nakajima concluded the outing from Richmond with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph against Ryan Kitchin from the sixth flight.
