Bengtsson leads Lions after day one of Tiger Intercollegiate

Bengtsson tied for second among players in birdies; Luo tied for second in par-5s

COLUMBIA, Mo. (April 7, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team finished through the 10th hole of the second round on Monday night, sitting in 13th place at the Tiger Intercollegiate.

The Tiger Intercollegiate was scheduled for 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. However, with the day wearing thin, most teams only finished through the 10th hole of round two and plan to pick back up at 9:00 a.m.

Junior Sebastian Bengtsson had the second-most birdies in the field with six on the afternoon. He leads as the highest ranked Lion in 25th while rising 42 spots by the end of the day.

Junior Xing Luo tied for the second-best score in par-5s with a two-under at a 4.50 average.

Every team in the tournament finished over par through the first day with Nebraska leading the way at six-over. Missouri finished in second at seven-over, while No. 26 UNLV rounded out the top three at nine-over. St. Mary's finished a stroke behind for fourth, while Kansas State solidified the top five with a 13-over.

ASUN foe Central Arkansas tied for sixth with Cincinnati at 15-over. South Dakota, Drake and Oral Roberts concluded the top 10. UTRGV rose five spots to tie for 10th. Iowa State bested the Lions by two strokes as UNA finished at 27-over.

Wyoming, Stetson, South Dakota State, Lindenwood and Central Michigan round out the rest of the tournament, respectively.

The par-70 course proved to be difficult for every team as only Mattias Varjun from the host team Missouri finished under par. Three other golfers finished even on the afternoon. Beside those four golfers the rest of the field finished over for the round and a half.

Bengtsson delivered with six-over first round before getting to two-under as the day came to a close. He had four birdies in round one before adding two more through the 12 holes he played.

Luo was the next highest Lion at 47th with a seven-over day. Junior Blake Henriques and sophomore Andrew Ferworn tied for 64th with a nine-over day; the three combined for four more birdies. Senior Chase Kaiser ended the day at 11-over with two birdies, one being a two-shot on the second hole in round one.

North Alabama continues round two tomorrow at 9 a.m. and will finish out the tournament by the end of the day.
