FLORENCE, Ala. (May 1, 2025) – The University of North Alabama softball team has three regular season games remaining, as the Lions travel to Central Arkansas for the final series of the regular season this weekend in Conway, Ark.
Game one of the series is set for 5 p.m. on Friday while the final day of the regular season is a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
Both UNA and UCA are postseason bound, as the 2025 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship looms next week, beginning Tuesday, May 6. The five-day event will be hosted at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.
Both teams have major seeding implications on the line, as the top four seeds receive a bye into the double elimination round of the tournament. Central Arkansas is 13-7 in league play, which would land the third seed if the season ended today.
Meanwhile, North Alabama has a 10-11 record and can still finish fourth with a sweep and some help. UNA is also playing for a top six seed, as the fifth and sixth seeded teams in the tournament will only play one single elimination game. The 7-10 seeds play two single elimination games. While a series win over UCA does not guarantee a top six seed, the Lions can increase the odds in their favor.
UNA is currently seventh in the overall standings and fourth in the ASUN Gold Division.
All three games will air on ESPN+ and live stats are available on SIDEARM. Tickets are available

NOTES
LAST TIME OUT: North Alabama hosted EKU last weekend at Hilda B. Anderson Softball Stadium, winning the series opener before falling in both games of a Sunday doubleheader. The first game was a thriller, as the Lions got a go-ahead sacrifice fly from
Emma Kate Wright and a three-hit game from
Hailey Jones to win 5-4.
WE ARE IN: With a win two weeks ago against Bellarmine, UNA clinched a berth for the 2025 ASUN Championship Tournament. The tournament will take place May 6-10 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala. UNA has made the tournament every season since joining the league in 2019, owning a 7-10 record in ASUN postseason play.
SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama enters the final weekend with a 30-17 overall record and a 10-11 record in ASUN play to sit tied for fourth in the ASUN Gold Division standings. UNA led the ASUN in pitching all season until last weekend, now sporting a 2.71 ERA to rank second behind North Florida. UNA also has the third-best batting average in the league at .299.
KEEPING UP WITH JONES: Senior
Hailey Jones is UNA's leading hitter with a .389 average. The multi-time all-conference selection has at least four games left in her career and is close to six of UNA's all-time records. She is the school's all-time leader with 55 doubles. She needs 13 more games, 10 more starts, 14 more at-bats, 41 more hits, six more triples and 26 more RBIs to tie the career records at UNA.
TRIPLE THREATS: UNA ranks 14th in the nation with 17 triples this season. Jones and sophomore
Briley Dover have five apiece to rank second in the ASUN.
IN THE RANKINGS: Both UNA and Centrak Arkansas are among the top 100 teams in the NCAA RPI rankings, as the Bears are No. 67 and the Lions sit at No. 81. Six of the 12 teams in the conference are among the top 100 teams, including North Florida (45), EKU (60), Stetson (71) and Austin Peay (91).
SCOUTING THE BEARS: Central Arkansas has an even 25-25 record against a tough schedule, but owns a 13-7 record in league play to rank second in the ASUN Gold Division. The Bears recently took two of three in a road series at Austin Peay. UCA is led by senior infielder Kylie Griffin with a .399 batting average. Griffin was a back-to-back first team all-conference selection in 2023 and 2024 and is likely to three-peat in 2025.
SERIES HISTORY: Central Arkansas has a 16-12 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to 1998. North Alabama hopes to snap a four-game skid in the series, including a three-game sweep earlier this season and elimination from last year's ASUN tournament. However, UNA took two of three from the Bears in Conway last season and has a 3-2 all-time record in Conway.
