Anna Milwee Hovater was hired at UNA in August of 2018. She spent three years as an academic support specialists before moving to assistant director of compliance and student-athlete welfare in June of 2021. She is now the Associate Athletic Director for Governance and Student-Athlete Experience, a position she was elevated to in November of 2025.

In her expanded role, Hovater plays a pivotal part in aligning the department's compliance and academic success units to ensure holistic support for student-athletes. She oversees the monitoring of NCAA legislation — including the evolving CSC and House Settlement frameworks — and ensures adherence to UNA's institutional policies. Hovater collaborates closely with key campus partners in legal affairs, financial aid, admissions and the registrar's office to streamline processes and reinforce cross-campus integration.

Hovater is also the department lead for the launch of women's flag football at UNA, a sport that begins competition in 2026-27. She added the program's first official signee on Nov. 12, 2025.

Additionally, she serves as sport administrator for baseball and beach volleyball.

After working in collegiate athletics departments at Tulane and UAB, Hovater was hired at UNA in August of 2018. Prior to that, she spent the previous three years as director of operations for the UAB softball team, assisting with academic advising, organized daily activities, team travel, camps and equipment orders for the Blazers Division I program. She first came to UAB in August of 2014 as an assistant in the ticket office.

Prior to UAB, Hovater worked in Game Operations at Tulane. She assisted with facilities and event management for the Green Wave. 

Hovater served as a student worker in the ticket office for the Lions from 2009-2013. She graduated UNA in 2014 with a degree in sport management and a minor in marketing. She also earned a Master's degree in sport management from UNA in 2021. 

She married her husband, Thomas Hovater, in 2025.
