Grant Wakefield has worked with the ESPN production crew at UNA since August 2022, starting as a student worker. On August 1, 2025, Wakefield accepted a full-time position as UNA's Broadcast Productions Specialist.
In his current role, Wakefield oversees all video broadcasts for UNA Athletics on ESPN+ and works together with broadcast leads from others schools in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Wakefield leads a crew of 14 student workers to produce each game and directs/produces roughly 90 games per year.
Before taking on full-time responsibilities in the production trailer, Wakefield worked cameras and also helped with graphics using Xpression. Wakefield has also been in the broadcast booth for softball and baseball games as a color analyst and has helped the Lion Sports Network with road broadcasts for football and basketball, multiple coaches' shows, Lion Vision Updates, First Southern Bank Homegrown Series Spotlights and Lion Athletic Club luncheons.
Outside of UNA, Wakefield is the co-host of the Grant and Brody Show Podcast. He also worked as a groundskeeper and maintenance assistant for Haleyville City Schools before coming to UNA.
Wakefield is originally from Haleyville, Alabama and now resides in Florence. He serves as a BCM Athletic Ministry Leader for UNA and attends the Underwood Baptist Church College Ministry. He is expected to graduate on August 2025 with a degree in Sport and Recreation Management.Â
