FLORENCE – Three players reached double digits in kills as the University of North Alabama volleyball team recorded a 3-0 sweep over West Georgia Friday evening at Flowers Hall. The 25-16, 25-17, 25-20 victory represented the 250th career win for UNA head coach Stephanie Radecki and kept the Lions within a half game of second place in the Gulf South Conference standings.
With the win, UNA improves to 15-9 overall and 11-4 in league action. The Lions also secured the season sweep over UWG after posting a 3-1 win on Sept. 19 on the Wolves' home floor.
Megan Gorey had a match-high 13 kills and hit .444 on the evening to lead the Lions. Natasha Fomina added 11 kills and a .320 hitting percentage while Megan Wadsworth posted a .562 showing with 10 kills on 16 swings.
Andrea De Leon recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 39 assists and 11 digs on the night. Freshman Ashtyn Kapovich added 17 digs, giving her 399 on the year.
Stasha Hopkins and Tiesha Alston had six kills each to lead West Georgia (5-17 overall, 2-13 GSC).
UNA will hit the road for its next GSC match. The Lions will play at UAH on Saturday with match time slated for 2 p.m. at Spragins Hall. The Lions will host their final regular-season home match next Tuesday against Union. The team will honor seniors Joanna Calhoun, Shantel Federick, Megan Gorey and LeAnna Lloyd after the final set. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
