UNA DOWNS ADELPHI 5-1 TO STAY UNBEATEN

DENVER, Colo. – Trailing in the Women's College World Series for the first time, the University of North Alabama responded with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally for a 5-1 win over Adelphi Wednesday. The victory keeps the Lions in the winner's bracket and puts the team one win away from advancing to the NCAA Division II National Championship Series.

UNA will play at 8:30 p.m. (CST) on Thursday against an opponent yet to be determined. Whichever team comes out of the loser's bracket will have to defeat the Lions twice to advance to the championship series, which begins on Friday.

Adelphi (35-21) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth before the Lions sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the frame to regain the lead.

An RBI-single by Nicole Camera down the left line scored the game's first run from third base. The Adelphi runner at second, however, made the turn at third and was thrown out by Bailey Nelson for the second out of the inning. UNA starter Raven Cole walked the next batter before being relieved by Hillary Carpenter, who got the final out via a ground out to shortstop.

UNA took advantage of three Adelphi errors and a pair of intentionally walked batters to produce the five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Mackenzie Roberts led off the frame with a single up the middle. Pinch-runner Destiny Wright took over and scored after the Panthers had consecutive fielding errors to tie the game at 1-1.

With no outs and runners on first and second, Courtney Shields gave the Lions the lead for good when her double hit the top of the left center field fence to score Wright. After Adelphi intentionally walked Brooklynn Clark to load the bases, Harlie Barkley's ground out to second base gave UNA a 3-1 lead.

After another intentional walk of Anna Gayle Norris loaded the bases again, Reagan Tittle's single scored two more runs to make the score 5-1.

Carpenter finished the final 2.1 innings in the circle to get the win. She improves to 30-3 on the season after getting two strikeouts without allowing a hit or a walk. Her scoreless innings streak has reached 39.1 innings.

For the game, Shields was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Clark finished 1-for-1, getting a single in the first innings before being hit by a pitch and intentionally walked twice.
