UNA SOFTBALL DOWNS TIGERS 4-0 TO COMPLETE SWEEP

LIVINGSTON – North Alabama had four runs off 10 hits while Brittany Ledbetter tossed a complete-game shutout in a 4-0 win at West Alabama Saturday in Gulf South Conference softball action.  The victory caps a three-game sweep over the Tigers and gives UNA a 31-4 record on the season. The Lions also maintained first place in the GSC standings with an 18-2 league record.
 
UNA scored runs in the top of the first, third and fifth innings. Bailey Nelson led of the game with a double and later scored on an RBI-single by Hannah Shollenberger to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead.
 
North Alabama opened the third inning with three straight hits to extend its lead. A double by Meleah Hargett and a single by Kara Brewer put runners at the corners for Shollenberger. After Brewer stole second, Shollenberger hit a single off the left field fence to drive in both runs.
 
In the top of the sixth, the Lions used a two-out rally to score their fourth run. Reagan Tittle singled to reach base and scored from first on Nelson's double to left center.
 
Shollenberger led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a trio of RBI. Nelson and Brewer each went 2-for-4 on the day. Ledbetter scattered four hits over seven innings. She struck out two and walked four to improve to 6-1 on the season.
 
UNA will host West Georgia next weekend in another three-game GSC series.
