UNA WOMEN DROP EXHIBITION GAME AT TENNESSEE TECH

COOKEVILLE, Tenn., – Tennessee Tech used a balanced scoring attack to get a 72-53 win over the University of North Alabama women's basketball team Monday evening in exhibition play. Six players scored at least eight points as the host Golden Eagles built an early lead and held a double-digit advantage throughout the contest.

Freshman Emma Wallen connected on four three-point baskets and scored 15 points to lead three UNA players in double figures. Jaclyn Heath added 14 points while Michaela DeKilder finished with 11 points and eight rebounds for North Alabama.

After scoring the game's first seven points, TTU led by as many as 11 in the opening quarter. UNA was able to get within six points early in the second period before another scoring run by the Golden Eagles pushed the lead to 14 by the end of the half. The Lions trailed by 16 before a basket in the closing seconds made the score 31-17 at the break.

A three-pointer by Heath early in the third quarter briefly cut the deficit to 11, but UNA would get no closer. The Golden Eagles were able to control the paint, out-rebounding UNA 46-37 and getting 17 second-chance points. North Alabama struggled in the paint over the final 20 minutes of play, with 30 of the team's 36 second-half points coming from either free throws or three pointers.

The Lions also committed 22 turnovers, leading to 16 TTU points. Tennessee Tech was able to take better care of the basketball, committing just 13 turnovers on the night.

North Alabama will now turn its attention to its season opener. The Lions will play two games this weekend at the GSC/SIAC Challenge in Tuskegee. UNA will face the host Golden Tigers Friday at 5:30 p.m. before facing Claflin at 10 a.m. the following day.
