WOMEN’S TENNIS FALLS AT UAB

BIRMINGHAM – Playing in its third match in four days, the University of North Alabama women's tennis team could not keep pace at UAB, falling 7-0 to the Division I Blazers Tuesday at the George Ward Tennis Complex in Birmingham.

The Lions fell behind quickly, losing No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Donna Haycock and Claudia Arroyo did come away with a 6-3 win at the top spot after UAB had already secured the doubles point.

The Blazers wrapped up the match with quick victories at No. 5 and No. 4 singles before winning the remaining four matches to secure the sweep.

"We looked tired and played that way, plus we played against a very good UAB team," said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop. "But I was pleased with our fight today. Donna and Claudia were impressive in doubles play. They really showed how good they can be."

UNA will join the men's tennis team Friday with a dual match at Rhodes College. Match time is set for 4 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn.
