LIONS DROP SECOND STRAIGHT GSC ROAD GAME AT UWF

PENSACOLA, Fla., – West Florida outscored North Alabama 23-12 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 73-60 home victory Monday evening in Gulf South Conference women's basketball action. After keeping pace for three quarters, UNA was 5-of-19 from the floor in the final period, dropping its second straight game to fall to 9-2 on the season. The loss also leaves the Lions at 3-2 in GSC play.

North Alabama led 40-39 late in the second quarter before the home team scored four straight points to grab the lead for good. UWF got two free throws and a jumper to take a 43-40 lead into the break.

The Argonauts scored the first seven points of the third quarter to stretch the lead to double digits at 50-40. UNA, however, answered with an 8-0 run of its own. A basket by Jaclyn Heath just before the buzzer made the score 50-48 heading into the final quarter.

Baskets would be hard to come by in the final period for the Lions. Trailing 52-50 with 9:26 remaining, UNA got one field goal over a seven-minute span while the Argos regained a 10-point advantage. A pair of free throws pushed the UWF lead to 63-53 at the 2:33 mark and North Alabama would get no closer than six the rest of the way.

Four players reached double figures for West Florida (9-2 overall, 4-1 GSC), including a game-high 19-point effort by Katie Bobos.

Ivy Wallen led UNA with 17 points. Heath added 13 points before fouling out with 39 seconds remaining. KeKe Gunter also had 11 points for the Lions.

UNA will return to Flowers Hall for its next two GSC games. The Lions will play Christian Brothers on Saturday at 1 p.m. before hosting Union the following Monday at 11 a.m.
