UNA WOMEN SHOOT DOWN SHORTER 100-70

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team shot 60 percent from the floor in a 100-70 victory over Shorter Saturday afternoon at Flowers Hall. The total included a 36-for-60 showing from the field and 62 second-half points as the Lions improved to 16-6 overall and 10-6 in Gulf South Conference play.
 
Freshman Ivy Wallen scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Lions. The total pushes her GSC-leading scoring average to 20.4 points per game. Emma Wallen was 6-of-9 from three-point range and finished with 25 points. She now has made six three-pointers in each of the last three games and four of the last five contests.
 
Against Shorter, UNA used a big second half to pull away. The Lions led 19-17 at the end of the first quarter and 38-33 at the half. After the two teams traded baskets early in the third period, UNA used a 10-0 run to take control.
 
Back-to-back baskets by KeKe Gunter gave the Lions a 50-35 lead with 6:10 remaining. Shorter would get no closer than 11 the rest of the way. A trey by Emma Wallen at the third-quarter buzzer gave UNA a 69-54 lead.
 
In the final period, Shorter was 5-of-18 from the floor while the Lions shot 78.6 percent over the final 10 minutes of play.
 
Gunter also finished with 19 points as North Alabama reached the 100-point mark for the third time this season.
 
Taylor Adams led Shorter (8-13 overall, 7-9 GSC) with 29 points.
 
UNA will travel to West Georgia for its next GSC game. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. (Eastern) on the UWG campus in Carrollton, Ga.
