HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- A goal by
Beatriz Fernandes in the fifth minute proved to be enough as the University of North Alabama women's soccer team posted its sixth straight win with a 1-0 victory over Alabama-Huntsville.
The Lions are now 6-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the Gulf South Conference. UAH falls to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the GSC.
Ranked 16th in the NCAA Division II, North Alabama recorded its 12th straight win over the Chargers, with the streak dating back to 2009.
The only goal of the match came at the 4:33 mark as
Kristen Sinden fired a ball into the box off a corner kick and it was headed in by
Beatriz Fernandes. It was Fernandes first goal of the season and Sinden picked up her fourth assist.
UNA out-shot UAH 20 to 15 in the match. North Alabama goal-keeper
Shelby Thornton recorded five saves.
North Alabama plays at West Alabama at 1 p.m. Sunday.
