FLORENCE, Ala. -- The eighth ranked University of North Alabama women's soccer team scored three goals in the first 13 minutes of the match and rolled to its eighth straight win as the Lions downed Shorter 3-1.
UNA, now 8-1 overall and 7-0 in the Gulf South Conference, got on the scoreboard just 1:02 into the match as
Beatriz Fernandes scored off a corner kick by
Kristen Sinden. Shorter answered witha goal by Taylor Hendrix in the seventh minute but the Lions pushed it to 3-1 by the 13 minute mark and never looked back.
Shorter falls to 1-6-1 overall and 0-5 in the GSC.
Paige Porter scored her first goal of the season for UNA at the 9:05 mark, putting a ball in the back of the net after another Sinden corner kick was blocked by the goalkeeper.
Michelle Hunter scored her third goal of the season at 12:59 of the first half off an assist from
Kylie Huey.
UNA out-shot Shorter 21 to eight in the match.
Shelby Thornton recorded four saves for the Lions.
UNA hosts Lee on Sunday in a key GSC matchup at 1 p.m.
