NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of North Alabama got goals from
Margarida Sousa and
Shelby Wall but came out on the short end of a 3-2 battle to Lipscomb in the ASUN Conference Tournament Championship match.
UNA finishes its first season of Division I competition with an 11-9-1 record and won two post-season ASUN matches to reach the conference final. It was Lipscomb's first ASUN title after losing in the championship match the last three straight years.
Lipscomb scored first at just 15:09 into the first half on a goal by Olivia Doak.
The Bisons extended their lead to 2-0 in the 39
th minute on a goal by Maycie McKay.
North Alabama finally got on the board just before the half as
Margarida Sousa headed a ball into the goal off a free kick from
Grace Lensing. The goal at 42:54 cut Lipscomb's lead to 2-1. It was Sousa's fourth goal of the season.
Doak scored her second goal of the night for Lipscomb at 50:24 to make it 3-1 but the Lions answered just over three minutes later as
Shelby Wall made it 3-2 with a goal off a penalty kick. It was her eighth goal of the season.
The Lions could not get closer and were out-shot 17 to eight in the contest.
