UNA SOFTBALL DOWNS SPRING HILL 15-0

GULF SHORES – The North Alabama bats came alive on the final day of the Gulf Coast Invitational Sunday afternoon in Gulf Shores. The Lions exploded for 15 runs off 16 hits in a 15-0 win over Spring Hill.
The win gives the UNA softball team a 3-2 record on the season.
 
The Lions' early-morning game against Eckerd was rained out while the start time to the Spring Hill contest was pushed back to 3 p.m. UNA took advantage of the extra time off, sending 19 batters to the plate during the five-inning mercy rule win.
 
After a scoreless first inning, UNA plated four runs in the top of the second inning, six in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth. Hannah Shollenberger was 4-for-4 on the day. She singled four times, driving in two runs in the third inning and another in the fourth.
 
Reagan Tittle, Alex Brown and Meleah Hargett also each went 2-for-3 at the plate.
 
After scoring four runs in the top of the second inning, the Lions broke the game open by sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring six runs in the third. Shollenberger had two hits in the frame, that was highlighted by Tittle's three-run home run to left center.
 
North Alabama went through two different Spring Hill pitchers. Megan Garst (2-1) got the pitching victory for the Lions. She was one of three Lion pitchers to see action in the circle.
 
UNA will travel to Huntsville next weekend to play six games in three days at the UAH Charger Chillout.
