MEN’S TENNIS FALLS AT ALABAMA STATE

MONTGOMERY – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team came up short in all seven points Sunday, falling 7-0 at Alabama State. The loss leaves UNA with an 0-7 record on the season.

After winning all three matches to secure the doubles point, ASU (2-6) used the momentum to sweep through singles play and get the win.

"All three doubles matches were competitive and we could have won them," said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop. "Its very disappointing that we continue to make the same mistakes on big points. We knew Alabama State was going to be good, and we got ourselves into matches, but just didn't play tough on big points."

The Lions pushed a match to a third set at No. 2 and No. 6 singles before coming up short each time.

"Again, we had some very good individual efforts in singles play," added Bishop.

"Jason Pimenta was sick, but competed and gave himself a chance. Oscar was in another tight match and tt was good to see Tim battle back after losing the first set. Even though it didn't end the way we wanted, he took a big step forward today."

The Lions will travel to Birmingham on Sunday to take on UAB. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the UAB Tennis Complex.
