MURFREESBORO, Tenn., - Host Middle Tennessee broke an early tie with a victory at No. 3 doubles to win the first point, then won six straight matches in singles play to claim a 7-0 victory over the North Alabama men's tennis team on Sunday. The loss leaves UNA with an 0-6 record to start the season.

The Blue Raiders jumped out to an early lead by taking a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. UNA, however, was able to answer with a victory at the top doubles spot. Senior Jason Pimenta and freshman Oscar Meslin evened up the match with a 6-3 win at No. 1.

The doubles point went to Middle Tennessee when the home team edged the Lions 6-4 at the No. 3 spot.

In singles play, the Blue Raiders got off to fast starts in all six matches, securing the win with three quick victories at the 5, 4 and 2 spots to clinch.

UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop said the Lions are improving and have had chances to score points this season. "We played well enough at times to have a chance," he said. "We just missed too many makeable shots. Jason Pimenta has played extremely well for us. He has been in every match and always gives himself a chance to win. Oscar Meslin was good again and George Markos was right there in his match. We have just got to be a little sharper in order to win matches at this level."

The UNA men will join the women's team on Feb. 10 in a showdown at Alabama State. Match time is set for 10 a.m. in Montgomery.
