LIONS DOWN UNF TO CLINCH ASUN TOURNEY BERTH

FLORENCE –North Alabama clinched a spot in the upcoming ASUN Conference Women's Basketball Championships Saturday with a 77-62 home victory over North Florida. The Lions improved to 17-3 overall and 8-2 in ASUN play. The top eight teams qualify for the tournament. Florida Gulf Coast is the only other team to clinch as spot.

On Saturday, Ivy Wallen scored a game-high 31 points and dished out 10 assists to lead UNA. It was the second straight 30-point performance at home for the junior from Anderson, who also moved into the Top 5 of the program's all-time scoring list.

North Alabama took its first double-digit lead with a 10-2 run in the second quarter. Wallen connected on consecutive three-point shots to give the Lions a 34-20 lead with 2:23 remaining in the half.

The Ospreys, however, responded with seven straight points to cut into the lead. Wallen hit one of two free throws with two seconds remaining to give UNA a 35-27 lead at the break.

North Florida got within four points early in the third quarter before UNA stretched the lead back to double figures. Savannah Stults started a 17-9 spurt with a three pointer from the right wing. The senior from Lexington added another trey and later capped the run with a pair of free throws to give UNA a 57-46 lead in the final minute of the quarter.

The Lions maintained at least a six-point lead throughout the final period. UNF cut the deficit to 63-57 at the 4:25 mark before a 9-2 spurt by the home team put the game out of reach.

Stults finished the game 3-for-3 from three-point range and scored 13 points. Emma Wallen added 11 points while Ansley Eubank also reached double figures with 10 points. North Florida (9-12 overall, 4-6 ASUN) was led by Jazz Bond's 23 points.

UNA will host Liberty next Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
