AUSTIN PEAY DOWNS UNA WOMEN’S TENNIS

FLORENCE – Austin Peay improved to 12-0 on the season with a 7-0 road win over the University of North Alabama women's tennis team on Wednesday. The loss broke a two-match winning streak for UNA, leaving the Lions with a 5-8 record on the year.
 
After securing the doubles points with wins at No. 2 and No. 1, the Governors clinched the match with straight-sets victories at the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 1 singles positions. ASPU finished the sweep with three more singles wins to remain perfect on the season.
 
Elise Sickle had the best chance to get UNA on the scoreboard. She teamed up with Payton Andrews in a 7-6 loss at No. 3 doubles. The sophomore from Jackson, Tenn., also came up short 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6 singles.
 
UNA will now turn its attention to ASUN Conference play. The Lions will host Lipscomb on Saturday. Match time  is set for 2 p.m. at the UNA Varsity Tennis Courts.
 
The UNA women have also added non-conference matches against Georgia Tech and Alabama to the 2019 season. The Lions will host a double-header against Georgia Tech on Tuesday, April 2, at 11 a.m. UNA will also play at Alabama at 3 p.m. on April 8, in Tuscaloosa.
