WOMEN’S TENNIS FALLS TWICE AT NO. 22 TENNESSEE

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KNOXVILLE, Tenn., – No. 22 Tennessee was able to sweep through doubles and singles play to record a pair of 7-0 victories Sunday in a double-header sweep over the University of North Alabama women's tennis team. With the losses, UNA opens the 2020 season with an 0-2 record.

In each match, Tennessee opened play with a dominating performance at No. 2 doubles. After completing the doubles sweep to take early leads in each contest, the Volunteers won all 12 singles matches in straight sets to open the season with a 2-0 record.

In the opener, Sydney Flesch and Lee-Taylor Bishop put up the biggest fight at No. 3 doubles. The duo eventually fell 6-4 after the home team had already secured the point. Flesch continued her solid play in the night cap, falling 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.

"We got to start the season against a Top-25 opponent and I was proud of how we competed," said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop. "I thought our effort was really good. We were very competitive in doubles. We got exposed a little bit in singles, but great teams will do that to you. All the ladies played well at times. We just need to get to practice and work on the areas where we struggled."

The UNA women will play two matches at Louisville on Wednesday. The first match of the double-header is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on the LU campus.
