OLE MISS GETS 4-0, 4-0 WIN OVER MEN’S TENNIS

OXFORD, Miss., – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team came up short in two matches Wednesday in a double-header at Ole Miss, falling by identical 4-0 scores at the Galtney Indoor Tennis Center. The two losses leave UNA with an 0-4 start to the season while the Rebel open the 2020 campaign with a 2-0 mark.
 
"We played better today than we did against Auburn," said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop. "Ole Miss is a really good team. Overall, I thought we had a good outing today. I thought we competed really well."
 
In the opener, Ole Miss won the doubles point with a pair of 6-1 victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. The Rebels held a slim 5-3 lead at No. 1 doubles when play was stopped.
 
Ole Miss completed the overall win with straight-sets victories at the No. 5, No. 3 and No. 6 positions.
 
The second match started with singles play and the home team picked up four wins at the No. 4, No. 3, No. 1 and No. 6 positions.
 
UNA's Tim Heslin and Cian Maguire were in close matches at the No. 5 and No. 2 spots when the Rebels won. After dropping a close 6-4 set, Heslin trailed 3-2 in the second. Maguire lost the opener 6-2 and also faced a one-point deficit at 4-3 when play was stopped.
 
The UNA men will play their third consecutive SEC team to open the season Monday at Alabama. Match time is set for 6 p.m. at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium.
 
"It helps us to play this level of competition early in the season," Bishop added. The ASUN is one of the toughest mid-major conferences in the country and we need to be prepared to play at that level."
