UNA WOMEN COME UP SHORT AT MURRAY STATE

MURRAY, Ky., – A fourth-quarter rally came up short for the University of North Alabama women's basketball team Wednesday in a 74-60 loss at Murray State. The loss leaves UNA with a 4-5 record on the season.
 
Murray State (7-2) led by as many as 33 points in the second half before the Lions closed the gap with a strong fourth quarter. The Racers turned an early 4-0 deficit into a 25-11 lead at the end of the opening period. The home team led 44-23 at the break and continued to pull away in the second half.
 
A basket and free throw at the 3:02 mark of the third quarter gave Murray State its largest lead at 65-32. UNA, however, closed the game on a 28-10 run, including a 24-7 advantage in the final period.
 
North Alabama struggled to score throughout the majority of the game. The Lions shot 39 percent from the floor, including an 8-for-30 showing from three-point range. UNA did manage 30 points in the paint. Freshman Skyler Gill reached double figures for the second straight game with 15 points and six rebounds.
 
Julia Strachan led UNA with 16 points. The graduate transfer from North Attleboro, Mass., scored 14 points in the fourth quarter alone, connecting on 4-of-6 attempts from three-point range. Macey Lee rounded out the top scores for the Lions with nine points and four rebounds.
 
UNA will play at Chattanooga on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. (CST) at McKenzie Arena on the UTC campus.
