FLORENCE – Liberty cruised in the opening set, then held off North Alabama in the next two frames to earn a 3-0 sweep over the Lions Saturday in ASUN Conference volleyball action. The 25-12, 25-23, 26-24 loss at Flowers Hall gives UNA an 0-2 start to the season, including an 0-1 mark in league play.
The Flames hit .458 in the first set, racing out to a 15-23 lead and never looking back. UNA had nine attack errors and two reception errors in the opening frame.
After the dominating first set, Liberty had to rally to win the next two games. The Lions led 15-10 in the second set before the visitors regained the advantage with a 7-0 run. A kill by Libby Goodman later tied the score at 22-22, but the Flames scored three straight points to end the threat.
North Alabama scored the first five points of the third set before Liberty rallied. The Lions again held a 15-10 lead and against struggled down the stretch. UNA held the advantage and even got to set point at 24-23 on a kill by Maggie Sullivan. Liberty, however, recorded back-to-back kills, then ended the match on a block.
Kamryn Parsonage finished with nine kills and a team-high 10 digs to lead the Lions. Breylee Linder added 11 assists on the day.
Julia Mangum hit .241 and led Liberty (1-3 overall, 1-2 ASUN) with 12 kills.
The same two team will play again on Sunday. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
