STARKVILLE, Miss., – Mississippi State improved to 7-0 Sunday afternoon with a home win over the University of North Alabama women's tennis team. With the 7-0 defeat, UNA falls to 1-3 on the season.
After sweeping doubles play to grab an early 1-0 lead, the Bulldogs won all six singles matches to complete the sweep at the Rula Tennis Pavilion.
Mississippi State got victories at No. 5 and No. 2 singles to set up the clinching win at the top spot. Emma Antonaki, ranked No. 69 in the nation by the ITA, then held off the Lions' Payton Andrews 6-2, 6-2 to secure the win. MSU added wins at the final three singles positions to complete the scoring.
Megan Humphreys added a strong showing for UNA, falling 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
The UNA women will join the men's team on Feb. 10 with a 2 p.m. match at Jacksonville State.
