SOFTBALL DROPS SERIES FINALE AT LIPSCOMB

NASHVILLE, Tenn., – Lipscomb scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning which proved to be the difference in the game during a 5-2 home win over the University of North Alabama softball team on Sunday. The win salvaged the three-game ASUN Conference series for the Bisons as UNA fell to 16-5 on the season an 5-1 in league play.

Leading 2-1 heading into the frame, Lipscomb got an RBI-double and a single up the middle that scored another run to increase its lead to 4-1.

UNA loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the sixth, but could only score a single run on an error as Lipscomb's Breana Burke pitched out of the jam. The Lions finished the game with 10 runners left on base.

After Lipscomb took an early 1-0 lead with a single run in the bottom of the first inning, the Lions answered in the top of the second. Emma Broadfoot connected on her third home run of the year and second of the series when she hit a solo shot to left center.

The Bisons regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the frame and held the 2-1 advantage until the three-run fifth inning.

After UNA loaded the bases in the sixth, Burke recorded back-to-back strikeouts before an error on the short stop allowed Katie Killen to score from third. A ground out to third base, however, ended the scoring threat by the Lions.

Broadfoot led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI.

In the circle, three different pitchers saw action for North Alabama. Starter Alyssa Drogemuller took the loss after working the first two innings. She allowed two runs off four hits and fell to 1-1 on the year.

UNA will play at No. 2 Alabama on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
