NO. 3 ALABAMA GETS 5-0 WIN OVER UNA SOFTBALL

TUSCALOOSA – No. 3 Alabama scored all five runs over the final three innings to record a 5-0 home victory against the University of North Alabama softball team Wednesday at Rhoads Stadium. The loss gives UNA a 16-6 record on the season while the Crimson Tide improves to 25-2 on the year.

The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning, when the Crimson Tide bats came alive. Following a leadoff triple and hit batter, an RBI-double by Claire Jenkins gave the Crimson Tide a 1-0 lead. With runners at second and third with no outs, however, Megan Garst pitched out of a jam. Danielle de Ruiter fielded a ground ball and threw out a runner at the plate. The next batter hit into a double play to end the threat.

A two-run fifth inning extended Alabama's lead to 3-0. After an error on the Lions, a double to left center again put runners at second and third with no outs. An RBI-ground out scored the first run. After a fly out, a double to right center score the second run of the inning to increase the home team's lead.

A leadoff walk and a two-run home run gave Alabama two more runs in the sixth inning. UNA, however, turned another double play to prevent more damage. With runners at second and third with one out, a fly ball to left field was caught by Harper, who then threw out the tagging runner at the plate to end the frame.

Harper finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lions. Katie Killen had UNA's other hit with a pinch-hit single in the top of the seventh inning.

Garst took the loss in the circle. She pitched the first five innings, allowing three runs off seven hits. Only one of the runs were earned. Sidney Revels pitched the final inning for North Alabama.

UNA will return to ASUN play this weekend with a three-game home series against Kennesaw State. The two teams are set to play a double-header Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by a single game at noon the following day.
