SOFTBALL DROPS SERIES FINALE AT LIBERTY

LYNCHBURG, Va., – Liberty took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning before adding a pair of insurance runs in a 3-0 home win over the University of North Alabama softball team on Sunday. The win capped a three-game ASUN Conference sweep over the Lions, who fall to 17-14 overall and 5-7 in league action.
 
UNA was held to three hits on the day in the shutout loss. Sidney Revels kept the Lions in striking distance with a solid performance in the circle. The junior from Bonifay, Fla., pitched the entire six innings for UNA, scattering seven hits with a walk and a strikeout. She threw an even 100 pitches on the day.
 
The Flames (26-12 overall, 7-2 ASUN) took the lead with a single run in the bottom of the third inning. A hit batter stole second base then reached home on consecutive groundouts to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
 
Liberty loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the sixth before getting a two-run single to left field to extend the lead.
 
After being held to a single hit in the first six innings, the Lions recorded two hits in the top of the seventh to chase the Liberty starter from the circle. A leadoff single by Emma Broadfoot and a double by Georgia Land put runners at second a third with one out. The Flames, however, recorded two straight strikeouts to end the game.
 
Kalli Daniel recorded the only other hit for UNA with a single in the second inning. Revels took the pitching loss to fall to 4-3 on the season.
 
UNA will host Lipscomb next weekend for another three-game ASUN series. The two teams will play a double-header beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
