UNA WOMEN CLOSE REGULAR SEASON WITH LOSS TO WKU

FLORENCE – Less than 24 hours after its ASUN Conference finale against Lipscomb, the University of North Alabama women's tennis team lost a 5-2 decision to Western Kentucky Monday afternoon at home. With the loss, UNA falls to 6-13 on the season and will turn its attention to the upcoming conference tournament in Nashville.
 
After the Hilltoppers posted a win at No. 3 doubles, UNA evened the score with a victory at the top spot. Sydney Flesch and Kalais Going produced the 6-4 win. WKU, was able to grab the overall 1-0 lead with a 6-4 win at the No. 2 position.
 
In singles play, the visitors wasted little time clinching the match. Wins at No. 6, No. 5 and No. 2 gave Western Kentucky the 4-0 lead and secured the overall team victory. UNA was able to win two of the final three matches.
 
After a WKU win at No. 1 singles, the Lions secured the final two matches with a pair of tiebreakers. Following a 6-4 loss in the opening set of No. 3 singles, Nina Linke evened the match with a 6-1 win. She then posted a 10-3 victory in the tiebreaker.
 
At the No. 4 spot, Going fought off a rally to hold on. After splitting the first two sets, she notched a 10-4 win to claim the point.
 
The UNA women will open play at the ASUN tourney on Saturday at Lipscomb. Match time is set for 11 a.m. on the LU campus.
