MEMPHIS, Tenn., – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team opened the 2022 season Friday with a pair of 7-0 losses at Memphis.

The Tigers (2-0) jumped out to early leads in each match, sweeping through doubles play before winning all six singles matches.

In the opener, Kalais Going and Sydney Flesch came the closest to getting a victory for the Lions. The duo dropped a 6-4 decision at No. 2 doubles after the overall point had already been won. The two teamed up again in the second match, falling 6-2 at the top doubles spot.

Memphis won all 12 singles matches on the day in straight sets. Gabriela Cevallos was edged out at No. 6 singles in the second match, falling 7-6, 6-3. She lost a 7-5 tiebreaker in the opening set.

UNA will play another double-header at Ole Miss on Jan. 23. Match times are set for 1 and 4 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford, Miss.
