LIONS TENNIS DROPS DOUBLE-HEADER AT NO. 15 OLE MISS

OXFORD, Miss., - The University of North Alabama men's tennis team came up short twice in a double-header at Ole Miss on Friday. The two 4-0 defeats leave UNA with an 0-7 record on the season while the No. 15 Rebels improve to 9-1 on the season.
 
In the opener, Ole Miss took the early lead with two wins in doubles play. The Rebels posted 6-0 victories at No.1 and No.3 before closing out doubles with a 6-2 at the No. 2 position.
 
Ole Miss then swept singles play, clinching the match with victories at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 spots. Jamie Bixby was head at No. 6 singles when play was stopped. The sophomore won the opening set 7-6, including a 7-3 victory in the tiebreaker. Carlos Matarredona was also leading in the second set 4-3 after dropping the first set 6-1.
 
In the second match, Ole Miss again grabbed the early lead after sweeping doubles play. The closest finish for the Lions came from Bixby and Guilherme Diniz, who came up short 6-4 at the No. 3. spot The match was then stopped after the Rebels clinched with three straight singles wins.
 
UNA will play its next match at Memphis on Feb. 19. Match time is set at 1 p.m. at The Leftwich Tennis Center in Memphis, Tenn.
