LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- North Alabama dropped both games of a double-header Sunday at Little Rock, falling 16-4 in the opener and 3-2 in the nightcap.
Trailing 3-0 in the top of the seventh inning of game two, the Lions scored two runs and had three consecutive batters reach base with no outs before the Trojans were able to stop the threat.
The Lions dropped all four games of the weekend series with the Trojans and are now 5-9 overall. Little Rock improves to 10-4 with the sweep.
In the opening game, Little Rock scored 10 runs in the first inning off UNA starter
Brycen Parrish, with seven hits and two home runs.
The Trojans added two runs in the second inning for a 12-0 lead before UNA managed to get on the board with a two-run fourth inning.
Reid Homan singled,
Luke Harper walked and
Jonathan Lane doubled them in to make it 12-2.
Little Rock got another run in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth for a 16-2 lead.
North Alabama scored two more in the top of the sixth as
Austin Thrasher tripled and scored on an RBI-double by Homan. Homan later scored on an RBI-single by Lane that cut the Trojans' lead to 16-4 but the Lions wouldn't get any closer.
Parrish, 1-1, took the loss for UNA, allowing 12 runs on nine hits over an inning and two-thirds. He walked three batters.
Caden Barnett pitched two and a third innings and allowed a run on four hits, while striking out three.
Will Morris pitched an inning and gave up three runs on four hits.
Carson Howard pitched one scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
In the second game, the Trojans scored single runs in the first and second innings and got another in the fifth for a 3-0 lead.
UNA starter
Austin Nichols (0-3) pitched just two innings, allowing two runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
Jacob James pitched two and two-thirds and gave up a run on five hits with one strikeout.
Austin Emener then pitched a scoreless inning and a third to close the game.
Trailing 3-0 in the top of the seventh,
Levi Jensen walked and
Devne Daniel followed with a single for UNA. Both then scored on a
Dominick McIntyre single to cut the Trojans lead to 3-2.
After McIntyre stole second, Little Rock starter Hoss Brewer (1-0) retired three straight Lions to secure the win. He allowed just two runs on five hits over seven innings.
Devne Daniel led UNA in the game with two hits.
North Alabama plays at Murray State on Wednesday before opening ASUN Conference play on Friday at home against Eastern Kentucky. .
