MEN’S TENNIS LETS LATE LEAD SLIP AWAY AT ASPU

CLARKSVILLE, TENN., - The University of North Alabama men's tennis team let a 3-1 lead slip away Saturday in a 4-3 loss at Austin Peay. With the loss UNA falls to 1-12 while Austin Peay improves to 4-5.
 
The Governors jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in doubles play. Austin Peay won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles before clinching the point with another 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot. No. 3 doubles went unfinished with UNA's Fernando Herrera and Nazar Fedoryshyn tied 4-4.
 
In singles play, the Lions won the first three matches to take a 3-1 lead. At the No. 6 spot, Jamie Bixby won 6-0, 6-1 to tie the overall match. Nazar Fedoryshyn then won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 before Fernando Herrera posted a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 victory at the top position.
 
Austin Peay, however, closed the match with three straight singles wins. Two of the last three matches at No. 2 and No. 4 each went to a third set, including the clinching point at No. 4 singles.
 
UNA will play its next match at Alabama A&M on March 28. Match time is set for 1 p.m. in Huntsville.
